He was predeceased by: his parents, Boniface Schwieters and Verena Schwieters (Welle); and his brother-in-law Sam Jackson. He is survived by: his friend Don; his children, Sally Foss of Larkollen, Jill Marie Kelly (Joe) of Eau Claire and Jon Schwieters (Dawn) of Eau Claire; his siblings, Clarice Jackson, Bonita Lewis (Gregg), Carol Richards (Bert) and Michael Schwieters (Jenny); and his grandchildren, Kurt Schwieters (Sydney), Josie Kelly, Brock Schwieters (Jaiden), Emma Foss and Jaime Kelly.

In lieu of flowers, Don requested donations towards his grandchildren's college educations.
