He was predeceased by: his parents, George Vertein and Agnes Vertein (Steinhorst); his brothers, George Vertein, Allen Vertein and Carl Vertein; his son Tim Vertein; and his grandson Michael Baxter.
He is survived by: his wife LaVeta Kapelka; his daughters, Regina Derlein (Bob), Maria Vertein (Mark Titel), Kerri Vertein and Annie Standiford (Brian); his sisters, Dorothy Stieve and Marilyn Vertein; and his siblings-in-law, Faith Vertein, Marie Vertein and Lester Kapelka. He is also survived by ten grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren.
