He was predeceased by: his parents, Henry Poortinga and Sadie Poortinga; his stepmother Dena Poortinga; and his siblings, Tony Poortinga and Evelyn Heeringa.
He is survived by: his child Sidney; his wife Pat Vlasman; his children, Sid Poortinga (Angie), Jodee Day (Shaun) and Dusty Poortinga; his grandchildren, Corey Poortinga (Carmen), Brennen Poortinga, Tara Johnson and Chris Poortinga; his great grandchild Allison Poortinga; his siblings, Ann Taubenhium (Bruce), Mary Doering (Art), Tillie Van Van Drongelon, Sadie Cardin (Wayne), Sylvia Watson (Jerry), Hank Poortinga (Kathy) and Ed Poortinga (Anita); his siblings-in-law, Marv Heeringa and June Viddal; and his stepsiblings, Gerdine Morrison and Garry Van Dyken. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
