He was loved and cherished by many people including: his granddaughter Nicole; his wife Patsy Kay Persons; his parents, G. C. McElroy and Minnie Ruth McElroy; his son Steve R. McElroy; his sister Janice Baker of Katy; his children, Krista Eich, Nicole Bartel (Jake), Andrew of Whatcom County, Jeffrey Ryan of Whatcom County, Scott McElroy (Eryn), Jaycee of Schertz, Michael, Isaiah McElroy of Boise, Thomas McConnell of Troy, Joel McConnell of Minot and Justin Ray McElroy; his niece Alicia Bates (Gary); his children, Allie and Jordan of Katy; his nephew Carney Baker (Heather) of Corpus Christi, Texas.; and his friend Shirley Edminster of Bellingham, WA. He was also cherished by his two children, his eight grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
To honor and celebrate the life of Gene, the family requests donations to organizations researching leukemia, helping veterans and homelessness be done in lieu of flowers.
