He was predeceased by: his parents, Alice Louise Fry Valentine and Silver Buell Valentine; his siblings, Vernon, Lyle, Richard "Buck", Gerald "Gov", Roger, Harold, Clarence, Fern Anensen, Eunice Colombo, Ernestine Wolfe, Dores Jarvis, Neva Schmidt and Alice Duncan; and his sister-in-law Ruth Valentine.
He is survived by: his children, James Junior, Edward and Airica (Paul Brumfield); his wife Janie Southard Brumfield; his grandsons, James Jr. (Derek) and Ed (Sami); and his stepdaughters, Jenny (Matthew Causey), Susan (Ronald Hammond) and Brittain Daniels.
