He was predeceased by: his parents, Dr. Yates Middleton Barber and Emily Clark Barber; his wife Francene King Barber; his son Lewis Williams Barber; his grandson Luke Kendrick Barber; and his siblings, Elizabeth Barber Long and Yates Middleton Barber Jr..

He is survived by: his son John Clark Barber Jr. (Grace) of Arizona; his grandsons, Carlton Yates Barber (Sabrina) of Warsaw and Philip Scott Barber of Florida; his niece Sally Long Loo; and his nephews, John Long, Bruce Long and Stephen Long.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St John's Episcopal Church in Warsaw VA.
