Nancy Caroline Jaquette Mabry Obituary
Mabry, Nancy Caroline Jaquette. Nan passed away surrounded by family and love on December 13, 2023. Nan was born in Providence, Rhode Island to Hazel Grace Richards Jaquette and Jean Paul Jaquette, Sr. At age 9, she moved with her family to Arlington, Virginia. She was a Girl Scout and attended Washington-Lee High School where she met her high school sweetheart and eventual husband, David R. Mabry. Nan went to the University of Michigan, earning a degree in Interior Design and becoming a life-long member of Alpha Phi sorority. Nan was an elementary school teacher for several years and a volunteer Laubach Literacy tutor for adults. In addition to those activities while being a Marine officer’s wife, she also raised three children: Jo Beth (Loni Yatsko), Dana Lynn (Larry Leonard), and Jon David (Ben Morris). A talented and avid sewer, quilter, and crafter, she ran a consignment craft shop in Old Town Occoquan, Virginia, The Cinnamon Cellar, before becoming a travel agent and later the Director of Volunteers at Alexandria Hospital for more than a decade. Nan and her husband retired to Lake Anna, Virginia, where they enjoyed friends in the community, the beautiful views from their home, and some wonderful visits from and travel with family and dear friends, especially her close circle fondly known as “The Old Brawds.”
Nan is survived by her children, her grandchildren: Ryan, Anthony (Valentina), Joseph, Steven (Taylor), Beatrice, and Everett; and her great-grandchildren, Paige, Caroline, and Hayes, as well as her nephew, Jim Jaquette, of Florida. We are grateful for the compassion and friendship of Sandra Pearson and the care of the staff of The Villa at Suffield Meadows in Warrenton, Virginia, as well as the wonderful team at Capital Caring Hospice.
Nan will be reunited with Dave at Quantico National Cemetery in a private family service. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations to Heifer International (https://www.heifer.org), one of Nan’s favorite charities.
May Nan’s love of life, simple beauty, service to others, and togetherness inspire gratitude for all that’s good, the sharing of joy, and the making of memories.
