Allyson Duncan Obituary

May 1, 1952 – May 11, 2023

Ms. Allyson Duncan, 71, lovingly known as Aunt Lolly to her nieces and great-nieces, passed into eternal life on May 11, 2023 after a brief illness. The daughter of the late Alan and Sylvia Duncan, Allyson was born on May 1, 1952 in Grimsby, England and emigrated to the U.S. in 1954.

Allyson was known well for her love of crafts, devotion to her “kitty-babies” Wyatt, Leo and Misty, her generosity, and her gift of gab. Throughout the past year, Allyson would spend much of her time creating intricate cards, calendars, and other paper crafts that became a must-have by her friends and nursing home caregivers. However, her true passion in life was always singing.

Early in life, Allyson discovered this talent and spent many years performing in clubs across New Jersey and New York. She would often regale her friends and family with her entertainment-days stories, but her most infamous was performing for Paul Newman at his birthday. No matter when or where, Allyson could break into song and capture an audience.

While Allyson held a professional career at K-Line in New York and Virginia for more than 20 years, her life’s journey moved her to Virginia where she resided for her remaining years. Her life was not without complications and challenges, as many of our lives are, but through it all she loved and was loved by so many people.

She is survived by her loving sister and caregiver, Fiona Abbott and brother-in-law John Abbott of Charles Town, WV; three nieces Kimberly Sigwalt of Ashburn, VA; Tiffany Abbott of Manassas, VA; and Ashley Reyes of Frederick, MD. Also surviving are Allyson’s nephew-in-laws Boris Sigwalt and Hugo Reyes; and great-nieces Madeleine, Olivia Sigwalt, and Ashley Reyes, all whom she loved dearly.

Cremation will be in Virginia and a private memorial service will be held at a later date at the request of the family.

In lieu of flowers, those desiring may send memorial contributions to organizations that Allyson held close to her heart: the ASPCA and Clarke County Animal Shelter or a shelter of your choice.

Suggested donation : American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals
