He was predeceased by: his parents, Deck Herald and Minnie Herald; his wife Margaret J. Herald; his daughter Linda Sue Gillespie; and his siblings, Howard, Carl, Bill, Curtis and Margaret Amburgey.
He is survived by: his sons, John E. Herald, Jr. (Ingrid) of Richlands, VA and Donald Wayne Herald (Ann) of Dublin; and his son-in-law Bobby Gillespie. He is also survived by eight grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren.
