He was predeceased by: his parents, Robert Jones Smith and Novia Lyon Smith; his wife Madeline Fulcher Smith; his sister Arlis Gay Smith; his son-in-law Jerry Billings; and his pet Maggie.
He is survived by: his daughters, Katherine "Kathy" Billings of Martinsville, Rebecca "Becky" (Junior Blevins) and Michelle McAlister of Stuart; his grandchildren, Pamela Lamb, Gail Spence, Sam Blankenbaker, Pricilla Martin, Victoria McAlister, Creston McAlister, Jerry Wayne Billings and Whitney Blevins; his niece Mary Frances Russell of West Virginia; his nephew William Edwin Stacks of Gainesville; and his close friend Nancy Grant of Abingdon.
