He was predeceased by: his parents, Ruby Gwaltney and Eva Jordan Gwaltney; his siblings, Ashton Gwaltney, Cleo Hindman and Edna Nash; his former wife Marie Holland; his son Alton Gwaltney, Jr.; and his granddaughter Kristina White.
He is survived by: his wife Betty Jean Meade Gwaltney; his children, David Gwaltney (Jennifer), Brian Smith (Stephanie), Lea Harrington and Wanda Wood (Robert); and his daughter-in-law Dianne Gwaltney. He is also survived by 15 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.
