He was predeceased by: his parents, John Wesley McClintock, Sr. and Mary Elizabeth Elswick McClintock; his wife Elizabeth Jayn Christie McClintock; his son David Burton McClintock; his sisters, Constance McClintock Smith and Geraldine McClintock Jenkins; and his friend Billie Sue Keene.

He is survived by: his grandchildren, Michael McClintock, Holly McClintock, Jenny McClintock, Erica McClintock and Amy McClintock; his great grandchildren, Mia McClintock, Maya McClintock, Olivia Lester, Noah McClintock, Liam McClintock, Carter McClintock and Nolan McClintock; his nieces, Jane Smith of Pounding Mill, VA and Connie Jenkins Bennett (Jerry) of Stedman, NC; and his close friend Thomas A. Keene, III of Tazewell, VA..

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made by donations to the Shriners Hospitals for Children, Greenville, SC.

“John was a friend and colleague, and I cherish his friendship over the years. He was a very generous and capable lawyer, father, and friend. Last year I took him to lunch, knowing full well that one of these days he would not be around. My father used to say, "Take time while time thou hast, for there is no time when it is passed." After lunch, we returned to his office...a treasure trove of law practice memorabilia. I snapped the attached pic. John: you are dearly loved and will be missed.”
