He was predeceased by: his parents, Jesse Townsend and Ellen Townsend; his wife Eva Nell Swaim Townsend; and his daughter Penny Ann Townsend Hutton. He is survived by: his daughters, Pamela T. Thomas of Georgia and Patsy T. Hosner of Blacksburg; his grandson Steven Morris Thomas of Georgia; his stepgrandson Jason Hosner of Germany; and his brother Smith Townsend of Texas.
