He was predeceased by: his parents, Thelma Sharitz Smith and Weston Whitfield Smith; his wife Donna Peacock Smith; and his siblings, Larry Gene Smith and Betty Lou Rupe.

He is survived by: his daughter Ann Laskey (Andy); his siblings, Donald Dean Smith (Pam) of Laurel, MD and Mary Ann Simmons of Laurel, MD; and his grandchildren, Keira Laskey and Shane Laskey.
