He was predeceased by: his wife Shirley; his parents, Albert Lawson and Charity Lawson; and his siblings, Henry, Roy, Charlie "Jug" Lawson and S. Maxine Riggins.
He is survived by: his sister Dorothy Allison (Donald); his children, Deborah Rupe (Jay), Sandra Lawson, Barbara Luper (Kenneth) and James Lawson (Bonnie); and his grandchildren, Lori Huss (Neil), Samantha Lawson and Jason Lawson.
