He is survived by: his wife Carolyn Jane "Scout" Griffith Whitaker; his children, Melvin Whitaker (David Hodges), Ramona Whitaker, Linda Farriss and Tammy Whitaker; his grandson Kenneth Whitaker; his brother Bud Whitaker (Virgie); and his sister-in-law Barbara Whitaker. He is also survived by 9 Grandchildren, 7 Great Grandchildren, 3 Great, Great Grandchildren.
