He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Guy O. Townsend and Sally Townsend; his pet Industry; his wife Emilie Laney Townsend; his son Guy Langdon Townsend; his sisters, Betty Rose Townsend Sexton (Tim) and Sally Townsend Hart; and his daughter Jayne Yates Townsend. He was also cherished by niece and nephews.

Memorials may be made to Aylett Country Day School.
