He is survived by: his wife Lucy Shelton Matherly; his sons, Doug Matherly of Hurt, Carroll Matherly (Karen) of Gretna and Larry Matherly of Hurt; his granddaughter Melissa Dalton (Larry) of Rustburg; his great grandchildren, Brandon Elliott of Hurt and Alex Elliott of Rustburg; and his stepgrandsons, Dusty Owens, Steven Worley and Jeremy Owens.
