He was predeceased by: his parents, Joseph Tate, Sr. and Nancy Lee Verdier; his sister Audrey; his wife Mattie Mae Wells Tate; and his sons, Clifton Tate and Jeffrey Tate.
He is survived by: his sister Ella Mae Wells (Alfred) of Newport News; and his daughters, Josephine Reeves (Jerome) of Baltimore, Francelia Jackson (Alvin) of Goochland and Sharon Tate of Gordonsville. He is also survived by eleven grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren, and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
