We are sad to announce that on April 5, 2024, at the age of 93, James Sylvester Reed of Gate City, Virginia, born in Kingsport, Tennessee passed away. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.

He was predeceased by: his parents, Mary Dale (Mollie Sampson) and Carson Reed; his wife Mary; and his siblings, Charles Reed, Evelyn McDavid and Helen Starnes.

He is survived by: his children, Jewel Swanson (John) of Charleston, SC, Darren Reed (Amy) of Gate City, VA, Delonda Spivey (Kelly) of Gate City, VA and Sonya Randall (Duane) of Newport News, VA; his grandchildren, Austin Reed (Kinsey) of Gate City, VA, Hannah Herron (Caleb) of Church Hill, TN, Haley Duncan (Connor) of Kingsport, TN, Hope Spivey of Gate City, VA, Sinjin Swanson of Charleston, SC and Meagan Eppard (Matthew); his great grandchildren, Chelsea Gaita (Josh), Addilyn Linton, Boone Duncan, Cooper Herron and Lyndee Reed; his brothers, Raymond Reed, Ralph Reed of Gate, Carl Reed of Weber City, VA, Larry Reed of Knoxville, TN and Billy Reed of San Francisco, CA; and also, Derek Kim Reed, Tahlia Randall and Dakotah Thornton (Richard). He is also survived by his 7 children and his 14 grandchildren and his 3 great-grandchildren.
