He was predeceased by: his parents, Heath Dalton and Alma Higgins; his son James Wade Higgins, Jr.; and his siblings, Judith Hendrix and David Higgins.
He is survived by: his wife Joan Martin Higgins of Galax, Virginia; his stepdaughter Amanda Pickett of Wytheville, Virginia; his daughter-in-law Jennifer Pace Higgins of Martinsville, Virginia; his grandsons, Sullivan Grey Higgins, Branch Dixon, John Olinger and Samuel Olinger; his nieces, Heather Shaffner and Traci Pierce; his nephew Craig Hendrix; and his close friends, Bob Andrews, Zach and Denise Olinger. He is also survived by several other nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the First Christian Church.
