He was predeceased by: his parents, Charles Edward and Mary Letha Snead Tyree; and his siblings, Mary Virginia Napier, Kenneth "Snitty" Tyree and Herman Tyree.
He is survived by: his wife Jean Banton Tyree; his sons, James E. "Jimmy" Tyree, Jr. (June), Robert Tyree, Steve Tyree, Todd Shumaker (Joan) and Chuck Shumaker; his siblings, Lewis "Pete" Tyree, Lois Shumaker and Linda Shumaker; and his grandchildren, Jody Shumaker (Jordan), Hunter Shumaker, Ariyanna Tyree and Robbie Tyree.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions be made to the Dillwyn Volunteer Fire Department.
