It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Virgie Gilmer Akers (Christiansburg, Virginia), who passed away on June 4, 2022, at the age of 77, leaving to mourn family and friends. She was predeceased by: her parents, Milton Gilmer and Myrtle Gilmer; and her grandsons, Gabriel David Akers and Elijah Douglas Altis. She is survived by: her husband Leon D. Akers; her sister Christine Woolwine; her children, Karen Akers Havens, Jeff Akers (Becky), Eric Akers (Missy), Cheryl Altis (Doug) and Lisa; her grandchildren, Matthew Havens (Sara), Daniel Havens, Josh Akers (Ashley), Nathaniel Akers (Whitney), Mikaela Akers, Ashley Altis, Austin Altis (Jenna), Caleb Altis, Grace Altis, Jacob Altis, Evan Akers (Taylor) and Hope Akers; and her great grandchildren, Oliver Akers, Emerson Akers and Caroline Altis.
In lieu of flowers family request that donations be made to one of the following organizations in Virgie's honor: American Cancer Society, Good Samaritan Hospice, American Heart Association, or The Susan G. Komen Foundation.
