He was predeceased by: his wife Willamae Smelser; and his sister Mary Jane Baker. He is survived by: his children, Rodney Smelser (Patrice), Reggie Smelser (Valerie), Becky Arthur (Kenny) and Melissa Graham (Freddie); his grandchildren, Jessica Lewis (Seth), Joshua Smelser (Samantha), Jeremy Smelser (Emily Henegar), Celeste Baldino (Roger), John Perry (Amanda), Troy Arthur, Andy Arthur, Seth Arthur (Bethanne), Amber White (Spencer), Levi Markham Jill Aldridge (Johnnye), Janelle Campbell (Michael), Sami Graham and Sophia Graham; his great grandchildren, Daniel, David, Rebekah, Donavan, Demi, Eva, Josie, Izzy, Noah, Aislynn, Eirik, Jaden, Lucy, Liam and Priscilla; and his brother-in-law Buddy.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the National Kidney Foundation, Blue Ridge Fire Department or Rescue Squad, or a charity of choice The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, July 22, 2018, at Oakey's East Chapel.
