He was predeceased by: his parents, Irene Lewis and Flem Lewis, Sr.; his uncle Harrison; and his brothers, Flem Lewis, Jr. and Fred Lewis.

He is survived by: his wife Nora Lewis; his sister Bessie Lewis; his children, John David Lewis, Jr. (Angela), Thomas Lewis, James Lewis, Spencer Lewis (Terry) and Victoria Lewis; and his stepdaughters, Bernictric Black (Melvin), Tawana Logan and KaTina Logan. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
