He was predeceased by: his wife Sally Sutcliffe Pierce. He is survived by: his children, Patricia Pierce Jones, Jennifer Pierce Hody and Dr. Christopher Pierce; and his caregivers, Diana Kennedy, Tina Houston and Kelly Apisa. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Alzheimer's Association.
