He was predeceased by: his parents, John Elkanah Philpott and Mary Gertrude Prillaman Philpott; his former wife Mildred Gregory; and his siblings, A. L. Philpott, Maxine Philpott Dorness, Harry Woodrow Philpott (Bobby), Helen Claire Philpott Palmour and Mary Patricia Philpott Petty.
He is survived by: his wife Nancy Jenison Philpott; his children, John Davis Philpott, Jr. (Tonya) of Eden, NC, Mary Stephens Philpott Lawrence (Richard), Smith, Elizabeth "Gregg" Philpott Moneyhun (Jay) of Blacksburg, VA and Letitia Kletcke Wilson (Gene) of Atlanta, GA; his grandchildren, Aric Durham Lawrence, Phillip Marshall Moneyhun, Nathan Levi Moneyhun, Holly Jenkins Moneyhun and Robert Faulkner Wilson; and his pet Hank.
