He was predeceased by: his parents, Delories Tanner Hopkins and Roy Dempsey Hopkins, Sr.; his grandson Bentley Dale Kerr; and his sister Elayne Ross (Lemore). He is survived by: his wife Cindy O'Brien Hopkins; his daughters, Maghan Hopkins Kerr (Travis) of Appomattox and Kaitlyn Hopkins Dill (Brett) of Appomattox; his siblings, William H. "Billy" Hopkins, Shirley Westrich (Ron), Linda Lloyd (Rick) and Wanda Cifers (Leo); and his grandchildren, Tanner Kerr, Greyson Kerr, Evie Dot Kerr and Ayven Dill.
