He was predeceased by: his parents, Charles Byrd and Betty Byrd; his siblings, Charles Byrd II and Vivian Gowdy; and his aunt Mary Borrows.

He is survived by: his wife Mary; his children, Casey Byrd and Jamie Lucas; his son-in-law Jesse Lucas; his siblings, Bonnie Bennett, Betty Wine, Tim Byrd and Steve Byrd; and his granddaughter Amelia Lucas.

Memorials may be given to March of Dimes for the support given to Richard's granddaughter, Amelia.
