He was predeceased by: his parents, Artie Lela Grimes Mitchell and Edgar, Sr. Mitchell; his former wife Essie Lee Brooks Mitchell; his siblings, Oliver Mitchell, Edgar Watson Mitchell, Jr., Edna Lee and J. C. Connell; and his stepson Curtis Howard.
He is survived by: his wife Sybil Mitchell of Woodville; his children, Wayne Mitchell (Annette) of Arkansas, Linda Vorse (Eldon) of Willis and Amber Cook (Sidney) of Pasadena; his stepdaughter Brenda Ewing of Arizona; and his grandchildren, Alisha Finley, Jared Mitchell, Brandon Vorse, Jennifer Favier, Bryan Bostick, Reecie Vasquez, Maddison Cortez, Christopher Wood, Diana Joaquin, Christy Aleman, Nicole Hopson and Lance Hopson. He is also survived by 13 great grandchildren.
