Gary Jones wrote a sympathy message

“So sorry to read that Bill Reed, my high school football coach at Texarkana, Arkansas Senior High School, passed away recently. I'm really sorry that I will not be able to attend his visitation or funeral service on Saturday. He was a great man, great coach, great teacher and great leader who did it his way for sure. I learned a lot by watching him and being coached by him my junior and senior years. He was definitely a tough, "old school" coach, who taught me discipline in the little things, desire, effort and TRUST AND RESPECT FOR AUTHORITY, which is missing in sports in most places these days. Thanks, Coach Reed, for some great high school football memories and for positively impacting my life in a way that only a high school coach can. One great Coach Reed memory is when we played our cross-town rival Texarkana, Texas Senior High School ("Texas High") my during senior year season. Right before we left the locker room, he told us that if we won the game, we would be able to keep our brand new home Razorback jerseys after the season was over. We only won 16-7, but dominated the game from start to finish. Beating THS was a rarity during those days (still is today), but Coach Reed knew how to motivate his players.”
