He was predeceased by: his father Francisco Barrera Jr.. He is survived by: his former wife Irma Isabel Chacon-Barrera; his mother Rosalinda Olivarez; his children, Alonzo Barrera Jr. (Monica Vera) and Aylin Isabel Barrera of Uvalde; and his siblings, Francisco Barrera III, Eloy Barrera, Bobby Joe Barrera, Billy Joe Barrera of Uvalde, Elvira Rangel (Jose Sotelo) of Beeville and Sandra Barrera (Gilbert) of Uvalde Honorary.
