He was loved and cherished by many people including: his father John Brookins; his wife Flora Mathis; his mother Frankie Brookins; his siblings, Jerry Brookins, Patricia Brookins and Rebecca Caldwell; his granddaughter Danika Brookins; his children, JoAnn Brookins of Tulia, Christina Moralez of Tulia, Gilbert Lee Brookins, Jr. of Tulia, Johnny Brookins of Abilene and Tim Brookins of Tulia; and his siblings, Barbara Brookins-Hill of Cedar Hill, Mae Hawthorne of Tulia, Freddie Brookins, Sr. of Tulia and Bon Johnson of Dallas. He was also cherished by fifteen grandchildren, one great grandchild and several nieces and nephews.
