She was predeceased by: her parents, Hershel Laney and Nell Bruner Laney; her husband J. R. Shumate; her son Ricki; her grandson Silas Martin; and her brothers, Omer Lee, Dick, Junior and Lewis.
She is survived by: her siblings, Robert, Waunita Jones (Eldon) and Wanda Hand; her children, Joel Shumate (Wilna) and Barbara Gove (Gary); her grandsons, Mickey Miller, Seth Martin and Ryan Shumate; and her great grandchildren, Halle, Bryden, Caiden, Kaige, Kas Martin, Reed, Rylan McClure, Carson and Cash Shumate.
In lieu of flowers, she asked that gifts be given to the mission's fund at Memorial Baptist Church.
