He was predeceased by: his father Henry James; his son James Bryan Powell; and his brother Sam Powell. He is survived by: his wife Rhonda Powell of Stamford; his daughter Layla; his son-in-law Chris Powers of Flower Mound; his grandchildren, Taylor Powers, Michael Powers and Christopher Powers Jr. of Robert; and his sister-in-law Fodie Powell of Abilene. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.

In lieu of flowers the family has requested memorial to be made to St. John's United Methodist Church or donor's favorite charity.
