He was predeceased by: his daughter Erica Renee Chavez; his parents, Pedro Chavez and Petra Chavez (De La Garza) of Edinburg; and his siblings-in-law, Refugio and Alicia Cuellar (Gonzales) of Pharr.

He is survived by: his wife Linda Chavez (Cuellar); his daughter Dina Denise Chavez; his grandson Christian Richard Chavez of Pharr; and his siblings, Daniel Chavez (Gloria) of Edinburg, Maria Elena Chavez of Edinburg and Velia Chavez of San Antonio. He is also survived by 17 nieces and nephews.
