He was predeceased by: his parents, Jose Maria Barrera and Maria Perez Barrera; his son Daniel "Danny" Barrera; his grandson Armando Barrera; his great grandchild Luciano Ruvalcaba III; and his sisters, Emma Munoz, Diana Torres and Viola Barrera.
He is survived by: his children, Jose Oscar Barrera Sr., Roberto Barrera Sr., Isaac Barrera Sr. (Rachel), Hector Barrera Sr. (Belinda), Christopher R. Briones, Amelia Ramon, Lydia Chapa, Esmeralda Barrera (Felipe Trevino) and Monica Moreno (Jose); and his siblings, Abel Barrera Sr. (Bernardina), George Barrera (Debra), Olga Garza (Julio) and Estella Vasquez. He is also survived by numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
