Phyllis Macey Obituary
Phyllis Dathe Macey was born on July 19, 1936, in Dallas, Texas, the daughter of Louise Meier Dathe, and Richard A. Dathe, M.D.
She entered into Everlasting Life on February 7, 2022.
After graduating from the University of Oklahoma, she did one year of graduate work at the University of Texas before deciding she wanted to travel. She joined the State Department's Foreign Service as a secretary and served temporarily for several weeks in Warsaw, Poland, finishing her regular two-year tour of duty in Oslo, Norway.
While she was in Norway, she frequently visited the Convent of the Holy Name in Malvern Link, England, and upon completion of her two-year tour in Oslo, she returned home to Dallas for four months before entering the Convent as a Postulant. She was clothed as a Novice six months later, but had to leave the Convent after two years due to extreme anemia. But she never wavered in her deep love of the Lord.
A year after returning to Dallas, she met Joe C. Macey, who was attending SMU Law School. They married in 1968 after his graduation and moved to New York City. While there, Phyllis managed a private family foundation which gave away $2 million a year in awards in the fields of education and health.
In 1980, Joe took a job with the Federal Government in the Department of Transportation doing Maritime Law, and they moved to Northern Virginia where they spent the next 32 years. Phyllis worked for most of that time as a secretary to one of the Managing Partners at a national law firm.
Both Joe and Phyllis had retired by 2011, and they moved back to Texas, settling in Round Rock. Joe passed away from heart failure on July 31, 2018 in Round Rock.
Phyllis was an amazing and humble servant to the Lord Jesus Christ. She was a relentless intercessor and prayer warrior. Though humble and quiet by nature, she was mighty in the Spirit of the Lord. She covered her loved ones in prayer - daily and much of the night. She prayed for the church - worldwide, especially the persecuted church. Phyllis started the prayer ministry at Light of Christ in Georgetown, Texas. She was constantly reading and learning so as to be effective for the Lord. She was generous in sharing her prayers and her knowledge. Her quiet friendship and fierce prayer covering will be sorely missed.
Phyllis is survived by her brother, Richard A. Dathe, Jr. and his wife, Patti J. Dathe, and their two sons and a daughter and their families: Chuck Dathe, and Chris Dathe of Round Rock, and Rachel Dathe Kelly, of Dallas.
