He was predeceased by: his parents, Hugh Barnard Garnett and Glee Miller Garnett of Altus, Oklahoma.. He is survived by: his sister Jean Garnett Moore (Hugh) of Chattanooga, Tennessee; his nieces, Lela Miller Moore (Steven) and Sarah Garnett Moore of Chattanooga; his great-nephew Edmund Moore Aglione of Brooklyn; and his aunt Ruth Garnett Sharpe of Checotah.
Garnett's passion for conservation and philanthropy continued with a second land donation to Austin College, later named the Garnett Prairie.
