He was predeceased by: his parents, Emilio Barrera and Hortencia Barrera; and his siblings, Olga Almaras (Margarito Almaras), Oscar Barrera, Raymond Barrera and Baldemar Barrera.
He is survived by: his wife Rachel of Charlotte; his sons, Jacob A. Barrera (Tammy Barrera) of Charlotte and Jason A. Barrera (Chrissy Barrera) of Corpus Christi; his stepdaughter Celina Elise Barrera (Joseph Wilde) of San Antonio; his grandchildren, Isaiah, Alyna Barrera, Penelope Elise and Callum Barrera; his brother Emilio Barrera (Glenda Barrera) of Laredo; and his sisters-in-law, Frances Barrera and Pauline Barrera. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
