He was predeceased by: his parent Enedina Galindo; and his son-in-law Juan Castro. He is survived by: his siblings, Ruben Montanez, Velia Montanez, Leonard Pallan and Lucia Gutierrez; his wife Rosa Payan; and his children, Veronica Castro, Velma Payan of Pecos, Texas and Elias Payan Jr. of Odessa, Texas. He is also survived by seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
