He was predeceased by: his parents, Raymond Dudley and Joyce Odell Nelson (Reeves); his son Brent Nelson (Shelba Ann); and his brother Roger Nelson. He is survived by: his wife Shelba Ann; his sons, Gary Nelson (Ginger) of McKinney, TX, Dale Nelson (Maria) of Houston, TX, Alan Nelson (Lori) of Lubbock, TX and Dusty Nelson of Lubbock, TX; his granddaughters, Brittany Barker (Hunter) of Lubbock, TX and Katelin Hobbs of Lubbock; and his great grandchildren, Bradlee and Elizabeth Barker. He is also survived by 1 brother, 5 sisters, and many nieces and nephews.
