He was predeceased by: his parents, James Santford and Addie Jo Shepherd Slemmons; and his son Mike Slemmons. He is survived by: his wife Kaye Slemmons of Lone Oak; his children, James Joseph Slemmons of Lone Oak and Sherry Alesa Colburn of Lone Oak; and his grandchildren, Jimmie Slemmons, Charli Wallace, Mike Slemmons, Christi Kilgore, Jeramy Slemmons, Sherry Gibson, Kasey Culley, Lacy Astorga, Shank Payne, Jake Otts, Amber Slemmons and Roper Huddleston. He is also survived by twenty-three great-grandchildren; and numerous other relatives and friends.
