He was predeceased by: his parents, Alejandro and Felicita; and his sisters, Alicia Lee and Tommie Nell Bernal. He is survived by: his uncle Ramón Galindo; his wife Minnie LaFuente; his children, Tina Lawhon (LaFuente), Tim LaFuente, Peter LaFuente, Angela LaFuente and Karianne LaFuente-Kieper; and his children-in-law, Gene Lawhon, Zelma LaFuente (Adams), Amy LaFuente (Mayfield), Scott Muller and Kevin Kieper.
