He was predeceased by: his parents, Apolonia Rodriguez and Joaquin Salazar; his wife Petra; and his children, Joaquin Salazar, Mary Bocanegra and Dalia Salazar.

He is survived by: his daughters, Paula Tovar (Jose), Adela Rojas (Tomas), Rosa Salazar and Sandra Salazar (Jose Castro); and his sons-in-law, Felipe Bocanegra and Rolando Medina. He is also survived by 36 grandchildren; 106 great-grandchildren and 26 great-great-grandchildren.
