John William Zimmerman Obituary
John William Zimmerman joined the choir of angels on Friday, June 24, 2022. He was born to John Lord Zimmerman and Anne Louise Alexander Zimmerman on April 29, 1957 in Enid, OK. After graduating from Amarillo High School in 1975 he attended Amarillo College and then moved to San Angelo where he completed his Bachelor of Music Education degree in 1981. John was serving as music director at Trinity United Methodist Church in San Angelo when he met Molly Russell. They married on August 1, 1980 in San Angelo. He taught choral music for 30 years in several cities; Sinton, Lamesa, Sonora, Spearman, Kilgore, and Amarillo. He loved his students as his own and called them his “kids”. He loved teaching music and seeing his “kids” succeed. John carried many titles in life but his favorite was being “Grump” to his grandkids.
John was preceded in death by his parents, John and Anne Zimmerman. He is survived by his wife Molly and their five children, Crystal (Keith) Zimmerman-Gamblin, John “Alex” (Brandi) Zimmerman, Jessica (Bradley) Harrelson, Jennifer Green, and Isaac (Courtney) Zimmerman; grandchildren, Alexis, Peighton, John “Rusty”, Kaylee, Zoi, Noah, Ali, Spencer, Harley, Eli, Noey, and Asher. He is also survived by his brother Terry (Barbara) Zimmerman, sister Sherry (Larry) Brewer, bonus mom Nancy Zimmerman, and bonus siblings, Toni (Wes) Knapp, Wes (Carla) Masters, and Elise (Steve) Rhodes, brother-in-law Randy Russell, several nieces and nephews, and many bonus grandkids. A celebration of life will be held at Family Life Church, 3900 SW 58th St, Amarillo on July 17, 2022 at 4:07 pm. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to Family Life Fellowship, the Ronald McDonald House, Donate Life, or Coffee Memorial Blood Center. John was an avid blood and platelet donor and a great way to honor his memory would be to donate blood at Coffee Memorial or a blood center near you.
