He was predeceased by: his parents, Pierce Messer and Lora Messer; and his siblings, Johnny Messer, Lee Messer, Mary Messer and Rose Lee Messer.
He is survived by: his children, Shawn Messer of San Antonio, Chad Messer of Orange, Jeremy Messer of San Antonio, Eric Messer (Rachel) of Port Arthur, Texas, Echo Shelton of Magnolia and Barbara Ashley of Pass Christian, Mississippi.
