He was predeceased by: his parents, Walter Rex Smallwood and Alice Abna Dingler Smallwood; his wife Mary Frances Noblitt Smallwood; and his son John William Smallwood. He is survived by: his children, Robert R. Smallwood (Shirley) of Kilgore and Diane Smallwood McCornack (Robert) of Ringling, OK; his sister Mary Hart Zuber; his grandchildren, Lindsay Mason (Frank) and Sarah McCornack DeLaO; his great grandchildren, Braden, Braxton, Kylie and Kelton; and his close friend Mary Hux of Henderson. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews.
