He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Chester Lee Hughes and Gladys Helen Jordan; his wife Maxine Bellotte Hughes; his children, Richard "Lee" Hughes (Lauren Kenney Hughes), Jared Daniel Waggoner (Rachel Black) and Stacy Johnson (Chaplain Greg Johnson); his grandsons, Preston Lee Hughes and Landon Harrelson; his siblings, Bobby Lee Hughes (Anna Valastro Hughes), Douglas Hughes, Danny Noland and Dyane Acosta (Cliff Acosta); his sisters-in-law, Carol Kendrick Ridenour and Betty Kendrick Collins; his grandparents, Aaron Lee Hughes, Margaret Katherine Breen, Richard Kane Jordan and Allie Dove Wheeler; and also Gladys Noland.

He would have the meat processed and then donated to The Children's Center and Ronald McDonald House.
