Sophie Balcar Obituary
It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Sophie Balcar of El Campo, Texas, born in Taiton, Texas, who passed away on January 27, 2023, at the age of 85, leaving to mourn family and friends. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
She was predeceased by: her father John Merta; her husband Adolph Balcar; her son Willie Balcar; and her brother John Merta. She is survived by: her children, Theresa Janish (Charles), Annette Balcar, Debora Shimek (Victor), Michael Balcar, Rachel Modlin (Glenn) and Anthony Balcar; her daughter-in-law Hellen Balcar; her grandchildren, Mathew Shimek, Kevin Shimek (Lynette), Luke Shimek (Katherine), James Janish (Rebecca), Marianne Balcar, Kimberly Janish, Rebecca Janish, Adrian Shimek and Kirsten Rogers; her stepgranddaughter Katherine Modlin; and her siblings, Alvin Merta, Edith Hickl, Annie Kaspar and Bessie Konvicka (Stanley). She is also survived by six great-grandchildren.
Memorial donations in memory of Sophie may be made to St. Philip Catholic School, Wharton County Library – El Campo Branch or the Blessing Cup Storehouse.
